The National Institute for Astrophysics (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, or INAF), founded in 1999, is an Italian research institute dedicated to the study of astronomy and astrophysics. INAF funds and operates twenty separate research facilities, which in turn employ scientists, engineers, and technical staff. The research carried out by INAF covers not only the areas of astronomy, ranging from planetary science to cosmology, but it also plays an important role in the technological development of scientific instruments and in the development of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) applied to astrophysics.
The Catania Astrophysical Observatory, located in Catania, via Santa Sofia 78, is one of the 20 structures forming INAF, which offers internships on different topics.
