Abstract
In many modern fields of technology, from aerospace to hydrogen technology. In particular, the use of AM316L stainless steel in extreme conditions, such as those found in cryogenic environments, presents engineers and scientists with challenging material integrity and performance issues. AM316L, a commonly used steel alloy, is characterised by its corrosion resistance and strength, but under cryogenic conditions the mechanical properties of the material can change significantly, including its plastic flow behaviour.
