Synthesis of biobased and biodegradable copolymers digestable by symbiotic BSF - earthworms

Research Topic
Abstract

Earthworms and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) are separately known for biodegrading some polymers under defined conditions. Amongst the polymers of interest, Poly(Ethylene Brassylate) (PEB) acts as an ecofrindly alternative to fossil-based plastics and is compostable and biodegradable under defined conditions. The scientific questions of the idea are:

  1. Can the Earthworms and the BSF separately digest PEB and its copolymers with lactic acid?
  2. Can the earthworms work in symbiotic conditions with BSF and improve PEB(copolymers) digestion?
