Research Topic
Abstract
Natural products and their structural analogues have long played a pivotal role in pharmacotherapy. This project focuses on the synthesis of bioactive analogues of natural products — primarily polyphenols — as novel potential inhibitors of key metabolic enzymes: alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase, relevant to the management of type 2 diabetes, and lipase, a target in the treatment of obesity. The synthetic strategy will be based on biomimetic approaches, employing enzymes as biocatalysts in accordance with the principles of green chemistry.
