Synthesis of natural-based hybrids with biological activity

Research theses
Abstract

The concept of "hybrid molecules" is an in-progress approach for the production of "newly evolved molecules" where different pharmacophores (of currently available active ingredients) are linked, fused or merged to (natural) bioactive compounds. The "hybridization" aims to create novel more efficacious single drugs with specific and selective pharmacological activity, preferably less toxic compared to the individual drugs, where the pharmacophores work synergistically. Naturally occurring phenolics have been used to treat and prevent a variety of chronic pathologies, including cancer, diabetes, and inflammations. Thus, their use to achieve new drugs in combination with other bioactive scaffolds is grewing. The aim of this thesis is to obtain new hybrids "combining" currently available drug
