The numerical characterisation of material behaviour enables the application of new materials as construction elements. To solve such problems, the phenomenological continuum mechanics and the corresponding mechanical experiments are applied. In order to obtain the maximum amount of information from the experiments, the test can be observed thermomechanically using an infrared camera. The measurement of the temperature during a mechanical process detects a self-heating effect of the sample in the case of inelastic deformations. In order to analyse this coupled effect numerically, the system can be expanded thermomechanically by evaluating energy approaches. For this purpose, the quality of the simulated temperature evolution depends on the selected energy concepts. The performance
