Biological invasions in the Mediterranean Sea

Abstract

With about 1,000 alien species, the Mediterranean Sea is the marine region most invaded by non-indigenous species in the world. Some of these are invasive and represent a threat to the ecosystem and sometimes to the economy and human health. Knowing the dynamics of biological invasions and possible management is a fundamental tool for the protection of the ecosystem and native species.
