Obstructing the Democratic Transition in the Arab World: The Influence of Western Democracies and Regional Powers - A Case Study of Egypt and Tunisia

Abstract
The role of external actors, particularly the United States and the European Union, as well as regional powers, in impeding democratization in the Arab World, is a significant external influence. Prioritizing their own interests and agendas over democratic values has hindered democratic transition efforts and reinforced the tenacity of authoritarianism.
