Theses in mechanics of materials can be developed on different specific topics including either experimental, numerical-analytical aspects or combinations of them.
Experimental testing facilities available include 1 motor-driven machine for static rates, 2 hydraulic machines for low-intermediate rates and an Hopkinson bar apparatus for high rate tests.
A drop tower and a gas gun respectively for medium-high and for very high rates are already installed and in the calibration-commissioning phase.
Typical subjects can regard elastoplastic characterization at all strain rates, anisotropy, ductile damage and the related issues concerning numerical modeling by finite elements and development of custom material models, related to structural materials including metals and/or polymers.
Static / Dynamic plasticity and anisotropy of Structural Metals / Polymers - (sample topics)
