Research in Mechanical Engineering

Research Topic
Abstract

The Mechanical Engineering Group at the University of Cantabria has a long-standing trajectory in research on gear transmissions, approached from both modelling and experimental perspectives. The group possesses extensive experience in the design, construction, instrumentation, and operation of gear test benches for model validation, with two benches dedicated to testing conventional transmissions and another specifically for planetary gear transmissions.
The group also leads an additional line of research focused on the study and characterization of the dynamic behaviour of vibration isolators based on metallic mesh. This type of isolator is employed in numerous engineering fields, such as construction, biotechnology, and the various branches of the transportation sector. In this field, significant tools are likewise available for the theoretical simulation and laboratory-based experimental of vibration isolators.
Furthermore, the group pays particular attention to the application of acoustic emission techniques in mechanical design and manufacturing.
