Development of a Digital Twin for Indoor Environmental Monitoring in a Historic Building

Research theses
Abstract

This research aims to develop a digital twin of a historic building in VIseu to monitor indoor environmental conditions in real time. The student will design and implement a sensor network (e.g., temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂) using IoT technologies to collect data relevant to the building’s conservation and comfort needs. The collected data will be integrated into a digital platform, such as Autodesk Tandem or another BIM-based solution, that provides a visual and analytical interface to track environmental variations and assess their potential impact on the building’s materials and finishes. Emphasis will be placed on system interoperability, data accuracy, and the usability of the digital twin for heritage conservation professionals.
